Mannheim’s Christmas market is one of Germany’s oldest, biggest and best, attracting many thousands of visitors each year. Many of the visitors are local, but some have traveled a considerable distance to enjoy the market.

The Mannheim Christmas Market begins on Monday, November 25 The carousels will be turning, and the huts will be offering a wide range of decorative and gift ideas, and Christmas scents will whet the appetite for sweet and savory treats. The Mannheim Christmas Market at the water tower will be officially opened at 6 p.m. on the stage.

Meet up with family, friends and colleagues for a leisurely stroll at the Mannheim Christmas market at the water tower. There is plenty to discover at the 160 or so lovingly decorated huts: classic and modern Christmas decorations, handicrafts from all over the world, cozy and warming items, beautiful gifts and home decorations as well as practical items for the Christmas kitchen. Classic candle arches and colorful folding stars, light houses and snow globes, woolen hats, scarves and delicacies from aromatic noodles to game specialties form a colorful variety. Children will enjoy toys and warm stuffed animals, beaded sack animals and music boxes. On site, you can enjoy bratwurst and Baumstriezel, flamed salmon and Feuerzangenbowle, vegetable pans and mulled wine, mead, chestnuts and much more. On the second floor of the 18-metre-high walk-in Christmas pyramid, a cosy café invites people of all ages to take a seat on the 130-year-old carousel with its powerful organ.

The children’s Ferris wheel, fairytale carousel and children’s train are popular with the little ones, while a hanging carousel turns for the very youngest. Choirs, dance groups, bands and music ensembles perform daily at 6 p.m. on the stage by the water tower, showing off their skills between Christmas carols, children’s circus and tap dancing. Children can have their photo taken with Santa Claus on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The proceeds from the Round Table Mannheim campaign will go towards various children’s projects in Mannheim.

At the special “Inform and Help” stand, volunteers from 26 organizations sell homemade goods from their kitchens and workshops for the benefit of social projects.
