Oktober Kerwe in Kaiserslautern
From 16 to 26 October at the Messeplatz
It’s that time of year again – The Lautern Oktober Kerwe is one of the best-known and largest folk festivals in the Western Palatinate. From 16 to 26 October 2026, visitors can look forward to numerous fairground rides, games stalls, food and drink outlets, beer gardens and a varied programme of events. Traditional highlights include the official opening with the tapping of the first keg of draught beer, Family Day and the spectacular fireworks displays marking the start and end of the event. Every year, several hundred thousand people visit the Kerwe at the Kaiserslautern fairground.

Fancy a little mini-break from everyday life? No problem! Whether you want to relax and unwind or prefer to get stuck in and let your hair down – the Lautern Kerwe has something for everyone! Action lovers will find plenty to enjoy here, as will those who prefer a more laid-back atmosphere. The market organisers ensure that, amongst the roughly 140 stallholders, the classic fairground rides – such as the Ferris wheel and the chain carousel, which are simply part and parcel of the fair atmosphere – are just as well represented as the latest trends. Fascinating fireworks, lively music and cheerful dancing are, of course, an essential part of any Kerwe spectacle!

An old folk saying goes: “When the fair draws near, the good food begins. When the fair is over, it’s porridge again!” At least the first part of this folk wisdom still holds true, for the scent of roasted almonds, gingerbread, crêpes and candyfloss enchants more than just those with a sweet tooth. For those who prefer something a bit more substantial, there are grilled pork knuckles, crispy chicken, succulent sausages, steaks, various fish specialities and much more! Good food, accompanied by a locally brewed beer or a glass of wine – that’s part of the Palatinate way of life and therefore an integral part of the Kerwe too!

Pop into the cosy “Shopping-Gässje” at the Lautern Kerwe. Here you can browse, marvel and shop right into the late evening hours. In a relaxing atmosphere, you’ll find everything your heart desires – from jewellery and unusual handcrafted items to delicious spices, fruity sweets and practical household goods.
Opening hours
The Kerwe is open on the opening day from 5.00 pm to 1.00 am, on Saturday from 2.00 pm to 1.00 am and on Sunday from 1.00 pm to 11.00 pm. On the other days of the week, the Kerwe square opens its doors daily from 2.00 pm to 11.00 pm. Some food stalls and children’s rides open as early as 11.00.
