Alongside his success as a singer and songwriter, Bryan Adams has pursued a highly accomplished career as a photographer since the 1990s and has received numerous awards for his work.

In the #SHOTBYADAMS series, numerous friends, celebrities and superstars modelled for him, including Julianne Moore, Ben Kingsley, Amy Winehouse and Mick Jagger. It is impressive how Bryan Adams directs these portrait shoots. Nothing seems to escape his eye. Those portrayed reveal themselves to him in poses that are at times self-centred, yet they are completely in their element. They leave no doubt that they thoroughly enjoyed the photo sessions.

But Bryan Adams is far more than a photographer of famous personalities from the glamorous world of entertainment. He also devotes himself to real-life stories and destinies of our time. A significant example of this is the series WOUNDED: THE LEGACY OF WAR. It depicts young British soldiers who have returned from missions in Afghanistan and Iraq with mutilated limbs, prosthetics and burn scars. The subjects gaze dignifiedly into his camera. They bear the scars of military service that radically altered their lives.

With the series HOMELESS, Bryan Adams turns his attention to those living on the margins of society: his portraits depict people without a fixed abode in London who sell the homeless magazine ‘The Big Issue’. With compassion and respect, he raises awareness of their plight whilst emphasising the inestimable value of each individual.

In the series IN COLOUR, Bryan Adams has enhanced selected portraits with an artistic element. Using a sophisticated process to combine the photographs with individually tailored colour tones printed on the reverse of Plexiglas, he lends the images an additional aesthetic and atmospheric dimension.

The exhibition is presented in cooperation between Crossover and the Hessischen Landesmuseum Darmstadt.
