Augsburg Christmas Market
Germany’s most beautiful Christmas Market
Music, fragrant spruce branches, golden lights, mulled wine and grilled sausages, gingerbread, chestnuts, nativity figures, Christmas decorations and children’s toys beckon visitors to the glittering market town. The Augsburg Christ Child Market is a feast for all the senses. The romantic backdrop of the Renaissance Rätzenhaus and the Perlach Tower, as well as the gables of the town houses adorned with Christmas lights – dominated by the illuminated Christmas tree and an eight-metre-high angel pyramid – form a unique setting. The city’s founder, Emperor Augustus, watches over the festive market town with a protective hand. As a reference to the biblical Christmas story, a nativity scene stands next to the bronze statue of the ruler of the Roman Empire: Caesar Augustus had ordered the census that prompted Mary and Joseph to set out for Bethlehem.·
