Maikerwe in Kaiserslautern

From May 24 to June 03 on the fairground

It’s Kerwe time again – the Maikerwe invites you to visit the Kaiserslautern fairground and is looking forward to welcoming young and old! From May 24 to June 3, 2024, there will be the opportunity to have a great time at the largest folk festival in the Western Palatinate. Guests can expect exciting rides, cozy beer gardens and delicious culinary delights.

The Lautrer Kerwe traditionally begins on the first day of the Kerwe, May 24, at 5:00 pm. At 6.30 pm, the Werkvolk fanfare procession from Bann starts its parade across the Kerweplatz at the gate to Schwarzwaldstraße. Mayor Beate Kimmel will then officially open the festival at 7 p.m. with a hearty beer tapping at the Lössel festival tent. Finally, a colorful fireworks display, which will be set off at around 10 p.m. on both the opening and closing days, will transform the sky into a colorful sea of glitter.

As usual, there are numerous spectacular rides that provide plenty of action and good fun at the Kerwe. If you want to get an overview first, the “Juwel” Ferris wheel is just right for you. A carousel ride in the “Frisbee”, a free-swinging and rocking disc with a flight height of up to 19 meters, is a lot more turbulent.

Particularly brave passengers can put their fearlessness to the test in the “Airwolf”. This flying spectacle combines controlled and free spins on three different levels. In contrast, the family roller coaster “Kuhnos Farm” is family-friendly. The farm-themed ride offers an animal adventure for young and old. The interactive “Laser Pix” adventure ride is also fully themed. Passengers can immerse themselves in a video game, beat the high score or compete in a duel with their fellow riders.

The “Take Off” offers extraordinary effects with high acceleration moments. Here, the gondolas rotate on a wheel disk at an angle of up to 60 degrees and provide a great ride experience. The “Magic” also promises a high-speed ride. LED light effects, fog and sound effects make for a great ride.

Those looking for something more relaxing, on the other hand, can immerse themselves in a colorful world in the interactive “Big Bamboo” ride. Here, dance, music and paths with obstacles take you on an exciting journey to the South Seas. In addition, the world’s largest transportable white-water rafting course “Rio Rapidos” with 360-degree rotating boats is great fun for the whole family.

The traditional rides, such as the breakdance and the bumper cars as a meeting place for young people will not be missing. Of course, fans of the Musik-Express, the classic for the right gut feeling, can also look forward to their ride up and down.

Numerous attractions also await young visitors on the Kerweplatz. Many children’s dreams come true here, because in addition to the pony riding track, there are also plenty of children’s rides to keep the youngsters entertained.

The cozy beer gardens, bistros, tents and numerous snack stands offer everything a visitor’s stomach could desire. From good bratwurst to Palatinate specialties and culinary delicacies, there is something for every taste. Traditional Kerwe goods such as spices, household goods, clothes and handicrafts are also on offer in the shopping alley.

Special program items will also make this year’s Maikerwe an extraordinary experience. Wednesday, May 29, is family day all day with half-price rides and admission prices as well as many special offers. Free face painting for children and a balloon artist in front of the Ferris wheel will also ensure that young visitors are in a good mood. Friday, May 31, is German-American Friendship Day on the Kerweplatz. An air force band, cheerleaders and square dancing will ensure a good atmosphere.

The Kerwe is open from 17:00 to 23:00 on the opening day. On Saturdays, the Kerweplatz opens from 14:00 to 23:00, on Sundays and public holidays from 13:00 to 22:00 and on the other days of the week from 14:00 to 22:00. Accompanying the Lautrer Kerwe on the fairground, the stores in the city center and in the commercial areas will also be open for Sunday shopping on May 26 from 1:00 to 6:00 pm.
