Automotive retro fever in the city
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, all visitors are cordially invited to experience a piece of automotive history in downtown Kaiserslautern. At the 16th Kaiserslautern Classics, a colorful array of automotive treasures from times long past will once again be on display – as always organized and presented by the City Management. On the occasion of this event, numerous classic car enthusiasts will once again come together in downtown Kaiserslautern and present their lovingly maintained gems to the countless onlookers in the pedestrian zone.
More than 200 chrome jewels, motorcycles, fire engines, commercial vehicles, tractors and Vespas adorn the pedestrian zone and the square around the collegiate church as well as Altenhof, Schillerplatz, Riesenstraße and St. Martin’s Square on this day.
The “ADAC Trifels Oldtimerwanderung”, organized by the Kaiserslautern Sports Drivers’ Union, will take place again this year. It covers a total distance of around 200 kilometers through the Vorderpfalz region, along a fantastic route with extensive meadows and fields, valleys and hilly landscapes. Participants will experience a rich cultural landscape as well as incomparable paths and roads with often breathtaking panoramic views. The classic car rally, which takes place exclusively on public traffic areas and roads, is paired with special tests such as skill, estimation and game tasks and starts with 120 participating vehicles on Saturday at 8.30 a.m. in the Möbel Martin parking lot. The vehicles will then be presented at 3.45 pm at the “K in Lautern” before they enter the Stiftsplatz and present themselves in the Parc Fermé, where they can of course be admired once again.
Another highlight is the 2nd Vespa meeting in Kaiserslautern. Over 100 enthusiasts of the legendary scooter will meet at Johanniskreuz at 10.00 a.m. and then drive into the city center at around 11.00 a.m., where they will present their two-wheelers in front of the collegiate church as part of the “Kaiserslautern Classics”.
And of course, the Kaiserslautern Classics would not be the Kaiserslautern Classics without a lavish supporting program. In keeping with the classic car theme, the focus here will also be on the wild times of the 50s, 60s and 70s and the special feeling of those years. Various dance groups, dressed in petticoats and real rock’n’roll outfits, provide a special feast for the eyes on parade through the city center. The music is also hot. On Schillerplatz, “The Fat Cat” will be performing from 11.00 to 15.00 and the “Rockabilly Hellraisers” from 16.00 to 20.00, in front of the Stiftskirche “Lucky Random” from 10.00 to 14.00 and then “Sarah und die Swing Herrn” from 15.00 to 19.00.
The music program will be complemented by the choirs “Fresh” (David Punstein) and “Forever Young” (Matthias Stoffel), who will be performing at various locations in the city centre from 11.00 am to 4.30 pm.
