Three is one too many
ROSE VOM DILSBERG
Rosamunde, also known as Rose, the daughter of Count von Lauffen, was desired by two men at the same time – a love triangle that ended tragically and ultimately fatally. The drama surrounding this love affair is unforgotten and still lives on in the local theater performances today.
Misfortune takes its course. A revenge is sworn.
The two knights Ulrich von Steinach from Neckarsteinach and Wolf von Hirschhorn asked for Rosamunde’s hand in marriage. She fell in love with Knight Wolf and was determined to marry him. However, the rejected Ulrich did not accept her decision and swore revenge. As Wolf made his way to Dilsberg to celebrate his wedding with Rose, Knight Ulrich attacked and killed the bridegroom. When Rose learned of the dastardly murder of her beloved Wolf, she threw herself from the castle wall.
Tragic drama – still today
The poet and actor Bruno Hermann Hottenroth adapted the dramatic story into a play. The premiere in 1910 was a complete success and the play was even to be performed in the USA. However, “The Rose” soon had to be cancelled for financial reasons. In 1939, the director Hermann Roth rediscovered the play and brought it back to the stage with amateur actors. Since 1951, performances of the drama have been an integral part of cultural life in Dilsberg. Every five years, different directors give the play a new framework and adapt it to modern times.

The Burgbühne Dilsberg e.V. performs the play “Die Rose von Dilsberg” every five years. Information on the current program of the open-air stage can be found on the website of the Burgbühne Dilsberg.
